Multiple hospital projects are set to be delivered by Tilbury Douglas and MTX, including a £26.5m replacement outpatients building in Stoke-on-Trent and operating theatres at Royal Bolton Hospital
Tilbury Douglas is set to lead the construction of the £26.5m replacement outpatient building at Haywood Community Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent on behalf of Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT).
Plans for the hospital project include replacing the existing building with a modern, fit-for-the-future facility that will support the best delivery of care for patients.
The current outpatient building contains Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) within its roof; this is a form of prefabricated concrete plank which has become outdated, and a national programme is underway to remove RAAC from all NHS buildings.
The new building will be accessed via the main hospital buildings and will continue to house existing services, including outpatient rheumatology services, diagnostics, physiotherapy and neuro-therapy.
Simon Butler, managing director Building Central at Tilbury Douglas, said: “As a highly experienced healthcare construction contractor, we will work collaboratively with MPFT to deliver this new facility which will improve the experience of patients and staff. The new building will also feature sustainable energy sources and more efficient construction methods to meet net zero carbon targets.”
Neil Carr, MPFT chief executive said: “We are committed to investing in the future of health and care to make life better for the communities we serve, and this exciting new development to replace the outpatients building at Haywood Hospital with a new £26.5m facility will serve to improve the lives of local people.
“This major investment for the people of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent will enable our staff and teams to work more closely together than ever before to deliver services that more effectively tackle health challenges being faced locally.”
MTX secures contract to deliver new operating theatres in Bolton
MTX has been awarded a new contract to deliver two more state-of-the-art operating theatres at Royal Bolton Hospital.
MTX is nearing completion of two operating theatres to be in service later this year. The new contract will create a second-storey extension to the current single-storey development adding a further two theatres to the original development and creating a total of four new theatres with ward accommodation and dedicated plantrooms.
The theatres will provide enhanced capacity for both Bolton and Greater Manchester and help to drive down waiting lists in the region. The four ultra-modern theatres are being built on what was a staff car park near the Princess Anne maternity unit. They have been designed to work flexibly and adapt for inpatient and day case adult patients. Day case surgeries include ear nose and throat, oral, urology and general specialities.
By utilising Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) MTX ensures that fully compliant facilities minimise build times by up to 50% and waste by up to 60%, whilst delivering facilities of exceptional quality.
David Hartley, managing director at MTX, explained: “We are delighted to be building two further operating theatres at Royal Bolton. The latest contract award continues a five-year relationship with the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and is testament to the hard work and expertise of the MTX team.”
