Pride in the Job is the most highly regarded competition in the house-building industry and a prestigious benchmark for exceptional site managers
Whether you are striving to win your first Quality Award or keen to progress to a Seal of Excellence or Regional Award, the Pride in the Job Best Practice Seminars will help you learn what it takes to become an award winning site manager.
And, after a sold-out event at the Edgbaston Stadium in 2024, there will be four events to choose from in July 2025:
1 July – Bournemouth
3 July – Milton Keynes
8 July – Leeds
10 July – Glasgow
What to expect from the Best Practice Seminars
In line with NHBC’s purpose to raise standards in house building by championing high-quality homes, these seminars are designed to help site managers understand more about the high standards required for Pride in the Job. There will be the opportunity to hear from previous Pride in the Job award-winning site managers on challenges they have faced and how they have engaged with and inspired their teams to achieve excellence.
In addition, Pride in the Job judges, NHBC regional directors and previous winners will all share their tips for success and answer questions from attendees.

This year will also see the return of an in-depth walkthrough of the Pride in the Job assessment process by NHBC regional directors and external judges. This gives attendees the chance to find out what they think makes the difference at each stage.
Learn more about the Pride in the Job journey
Pride in the Job is truly accessible to all. Every site manager with a site registered for an NHBC Buildmark warranty is automatically entered.
The competition covers England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man, and is open to businesses of all sizes with no entry forms or fees.
Judging for the competition takes place over 18 months and includes assessment across six key areas:
- consistency
- attention to detail
- leadership
- the interpretation of drawings and specifications
- technical expertise
- health and safety.
The judging process for Pride in the Job is rigorous. Thousands of site inspections take place across the UK and from these meticulous scoring and verification are undertaken to identify the Quality Award winning site managers.
We then move to the Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards level and finally to the Supreme Awards for the ultimate winners.
Darren Horner, regional director at NHBC, said: “I hosted the first Best Practice Seminar in 2024 and could see how useful it was to those looking at how they could improve quality on their sites and make progress in Pride in the Job. Last year we spoke about the importance of consistency and I’m sure this will be a theme once again in 2025.”
Inspiring excellence
For over 40 years Pride in the Job has helped to encourage new and interesting perspectives that support innovation and developments in building practices.
In addition to the distinction of winning at Pride in the Job, these awards have a lasting impact on the house-building industry, ensuring knowledge and skills are shared with the next generation and the whole team benefit from an award-winning site manager’s mentorship.
That is why each Best Practice Seminar will feature insightful advice and guidance from past winners, individuals who have first-hand experience of the exciting but nonetheless demanding Pride in the Job journey.
Darren Horner, regional director at NHBC, added: “It is truly wonderful to meet so many dedicated professionals at these events and be able to offer this platform to share the knowledge and expertise of the judges. It is also inspiring to hear from previous winners as they offer their top tips for success, showing not just what can be achieved, but giving invaluable insight into how they did it.”
