Sama Investments unveil new flagship residential scheme in Digbeth

The Birmingham-based residential developer, Sama Investments, has submitted plans for a new flagship residential scheme on a brownfield site in Bordesley Green

The new site, known as Garrison Circus, will feature a 37-storey tower located at the intersection of Great Barr Street and Watery Lane Middleway. The residential scheme aims to create a new entrance into Digbeth and Birmingham City Centre. Four new residential blocks will be built, creating over 500 new homes and 650 student rooms.

These proposals aim to address the demand for new housing while also contributing to the atmosphere of the nearby universities, Aston and Birmingham City University. Both universities are located within a short walking distance of the site.

Garrison Circus adds to Digbeth’s redevelopment

The Garrison Circus project is part of a wider redevelopment of Birmingham and the Digbeth area especially and follows recently completed projects such as Cole Waterhouse. The Cole Waterhouse project spans 5.11 acres, reinvigorating existing industrial land into a vibrant mixed-use project. The project delivered 943 new homes, a 133-bedroom hotel, flexible commercial space, ample parking, and expansive public areas.

The Garrison Circus residential scheme will deliver a range of amenities, creating activity at the street level. Amenities include a dedicated space to support the local arts industry, creating a link to Digbeth’s reputation as a centre for culture and creativity.

“Garrison Circus is a fantastic opportunity to unlock a new gateway into Digbeth whilst also supporting the wider regeneration of the area. Digbeth will be at the heart of Birmingham’s ongoing transformation and a hub of culture and creativity,” said Paul Casola, lead project manager at Sama Investments.

“Our proposals will bring a derelict brownfield site back into productive use whilst retaining and enhancing a local heritage asset. Not only will we deliver vital new homes and student accommodation, but the plans also include street-level community uses and green space for existing residents in the area,” he continued.

The residential scheme will merge with the existing community

The project will include the development of new outdoor courtyards and public open spaces, increasing the appeal of the community with an attractive new space. Additionally, the restoration and preservation of the locally listed Myona building, which holds historical significance, will be part of the transformation.

“We look forward to working with our partners at Birmingham City Council to bring the planning application forward over the coming months,” concluded Casola.
