Skanska and Black & Veatch have won £219m from the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) to redevelop RAF Molesworth

This joint venture will deliver the construction and supporting infrastructure for the US Air Force European Infrastructure Consolidation (EIC) works at RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire.

RAF Molesworth is a Royal Air Force station which dates back to 1917. It currently serves as the home of the Joint Intelligence Operations Centre Europe Analytic Centre and is home to the 423rd Air Base Group.

Work on RAF Molesworth will begin immediately

The Skanska and Black & Veatch team construct a new two-storey military facility, supporting infrastructure and a warehouse. The design phase will begin immediately, and construction on the site is scheduled to start in the spring of 2024. The entire project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2028.

“This contract award marks the latest stage of an ongoing and important relationship between DIO and our NATO partners and allies, the USA. We look forward to working hard with our suppliers to deliver an impressive facility for the US Air Force,” commented David Brewer, DIO’s chief operating officer.

Skanska has a wealth of experience with similar projects

The award is a testament to Skanska’s proven track record in delivering defence projects in the UK for over twenty years. Their expertise includes handling major construction schemes and providing facilities management for critical establishments.

Skanska led the successful redevelopment of Worthy Down in Hampshire from 2014 to 2022, and they are currently managing another major project at the Vehicle Storage and Support Programme in Gloucestershire.

“We’re very excited to be delivering this project as we continue to support DIO and their partners in the US Air Force and NATO,” said Skanska executive vice president, Adam McDonald.

“We have long-standing experience in delivering complex projects in the defence sector, which means we can hit the ground running when we move on to this site. Our expertise allows us to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions that lead to a great end product for our customers,” he concluded.
