German retailer Lidl is seeking contractors to deliver their expansion plans, hosting a series of meet and greets in Newcastle, Glasgow, Birmingham and Southampton

Lidl, which has close to a thousand stores in the UK, will be hosting events across the country to find contractors as part of its expansion strategy.

The discount supermarket chain has an annual tunrover of £9bn across the UK and employs around 31,000 people. A spokesperson for Lidl said that there was “no ceiling to Lidl’s ambitions on store openings.”

According to Lidl, the events will “will provide contractors with the chance to learn about opportunities to work with Lidl, whilst gaining insight into the discounter’s structure, processes and requirements,” being hosted by Lidl GB’s property and construction teams.

Lidl’s expansion plans include increasing warehouse infrastructure

Lidl GB has also outlined plans to increase their logistics and warehouse capacity. A planning application was recently submitted for a new regional distribution centre on a 38-acre site in Gildersome, Leeds, whilst the retailer’s biggest warehouse in the world, serving over 150 stores, will open in Luton in late summer.

The expansion strategy also hopes to expand Lidl’s presence in Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, and London.

Contractors across the country are encouraged to sign up

Lidl GB chief development officer Richard Taylor said: “As we celebrate our 30th year, our commitment to ensuring that all households across the country have access to high-quality produce at affordable prices is stronger than ever.

“We’re planning to open hundreds of new Lidl stores and the contractors that we work with are essential in supporting this ambition. That is exactly why we’re hosting these events in Newcastle, Glasgow, Birmingham and Southampton.

“It not only gives us a chance to meet new contacts and engage with existing partners, but also presents them with the opportunity to speak firsthand with the relevant teams here at Lidl. We would therefore encourage anyone interested in attending to sign up.”
