Sir Robert McAlpine has completed a new mental health facility for Northgate Park Hospital, Northumberland, as part of the hospital’s £60m redevelopment under Cohort 1 of the NHS New Hospital Programme
Designed by Medical Architecture, the new mental health facility provides a variety of indoor and outdoor settings for relaxation and activity, relieving boredom and addressing the risk of challenging behaviours and poor physical health.
The facility is part of the £72.6m Care Environment Development and Re-provision programme
The project was delivered through cohort 1 of the NHS New Hospital Programme. It fulfils one of the Trust’s key strategic priorities and is part of their £72.6m Care Environment Development and Re-provision programme (CEDAR).
The Sycamore building provides inpatient accommodation for 72 male patients with a range of mental health needs.
The facility alleviates boredom by creating settings that can be accessed autonomously, such as bedrooms, living spaces, sheltered gardens and open courtyards.
The Sycamore building provides state-of-the-art mental health facilities for patients
Commenting on the new facility, Mark Gibson, healthcare sector managing director at Sir Robert McAlpine, said: “Working closely with CNTW NHS Foundation Trust and our outstanding team of specialists, we are delighted to have delivered these state-of-the-art mental health facilities.
“The Sycamore building provides healthcare excellence for the benefits and welfare of patients in the region and their families.”
