Lincolnshire children's home

Willmott Dixon’s design proposals for a new Lincolnshire children’s home have been approved

Willmott Dixon submitted design plans for a 28-bed secure facility on Bonemill Lane on the outskirts of Sleaford, Lincolnshire.

Plans for the children’s home were given the green light by Lincolnshire County Council‘s planning and regulation committee on 31 July.

The Department for Education will fund the children’s home. The space will provide care to vulnerable children in Lincolnshire and will be a national resource for secure accommodation.

“This is a hugely significant scheme to help Lincolnshire address its need for secure accommodation,” said Nick Heath, director at Willmott Dixon.

“The new building has been designed to support the young people to get their lives ‘back on track’ using a whole host of facilities including on-site education, wellbeing, vocational and sports facilities, as well as delivering against important sustainability credentials to make the building’s legacy especially evident,” he continued.

Willmott Dixon aims to deliver a net zero facility

The new accommodation will aim for net zero operation solutions. These include a majority off-grid design supported by solar panels and state-of-the-art power storage.

A new service road, car park, surface water attenuation pond, and landscaped areas will be installed as part of Willmott Dixon’s plans.

The scheme will adhere to Pagabo’s Major Works framework, and Kier Group will work alongside Willmott Dixon as the architect for the project.

Lincolnshire children’s home can ease national demand

“The new secure home will provide a much-improved environment for the young people living and educated there and help to meet the increased national demand for spaces,” commented Patricia Bradwell OBE, executive member for children’s services at Lincolnshire County Council.

“It will make sure these children are offered the required support, training and guidance in modern facilities,” she added.
