Portsmouth City Council has chosen Willmott Dixon to oversee the development of Bransbury Park Leisure Centre project in Eastney

Willmott Dixon will work alongside the council on the Bransbury Park Leisure Centre during the remaining stages of the design process before submitting plans for planning permission in Autumn.

Willmott Dixson’s appointment represents an important milestone in the council’s commitment to offering residents a state-of-the-art leisure centre.

Bransbury Park Leisure Centre will provide health services

The Bransbury Park Leisure Centre includes sports and swimming facilities, and GP services, aligning with the council’s vision of promoting health, well-being, and social interaction in the community.

“We’re pleased to be working with Willmott Dixon, who has extensive leisure construction experience, to deliver a state-of-the-art leisure facility for our residents,” commented Cllr Steve Pitt, Portsmouth City Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure, and economic development.

“We’re excited to submit our updated design plans for planning permission in Autumn, moving us a step closer to delivering a sports and swimming facility for people to enjoy healthier and happier lives,” he continued.

The project will prioritise green space

According to Portsmouth City Council, the proposed plans will not involve the removal of any existing grass areas, aside from a limited area designated for a ‘grasscrete’ installation.

This ‘grasscrete’ will create a stable surface for parking, expanding the size of the car park while preserving the majority of the green spaces.

“We are looking forward to working with the city council to take forward this important project in the heart of Portsmouth,” said Richard Poulter, managing director for Willmott Dixon in the South.

“We have a track record of delivering property that brings together a number of uses and services ‘under one roof’ as a vital part of supporting community well-being and prosperity, which we discuss in our ‘blueprint for growth’ here,” he added.

Willmott Dixon was appointed to the project via the Southern Construction Framework (SCF)

The SCF is a joint venture between Devon County Council and Hampshire County Council, specialising frameworks for the public sector.

“We are pleased to have supported the procurement of this incredibly important project for Portsmouth City Council. We look forward to watching the progress of this leisure facility that will bring a huge number of benefits to the local community,” concluded James Wright, senior framework manager for the SFC.
